Early in her career, she followed her father into the field of health care. He owned Hall’s Drug Store in Oxford, NC. Virginia worked as a nurse and earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy before expanding her realm of expertise into the fields of business and economics. (Although the store is now gone, Virginia still owns and maintains the historic Hall's building, built in 1879.)
Virginia earned a Masters in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University in 1996. This program included work in economics, business, finance, politics, and government. Virginia was able to develop a broad approach to helping people plan for the future. She views economic decisions, along with health care and legal planning, as the foundation for personal well-being. She presents this broad understanding of long-term quality of life issues in her seminar, "Quality of Life Planning for Retirement", which she leads collaboratively with medical and legal professionals.
Working diligently to stay abreast of current trends in the investment industry, Virginia maintains current membership in the CFA® North Carolina Society and the CFA® Institute, formerly the Association for Investment Management Research. She participates in the Institute's Professional Development Program and other similar activities.
Virginia enjoys tennis, ballroom dancing, and reading when she's not working to help individuals, non-profits, businesses, and business owners develop plans to achieve their financial goals.
